Restoring the legacy
During the Great Migration, Pembroke Township's truck farmers fed Chicago to Cleveland off of 20,000-30,000 acres of farmland, stewarded by hundreds of farming families, full control from seed to table across 400 miles. In the winter, Pembroke became a channel for the harvest from farmers in the south to the Midwest.
The Healthy Food Hub restores this legacy, reconnecting Great Migration descendants with the land that sustained their ancestors.
